How to sell copies of your book.

How to sell copies of your book.

Selling the first hundred copies of your book is a great feeling because it means that you have managed to successfully convince 100 people to support you. We have been receiving a lot of emails about the art of selling and this mail will help you understand how you can go about doing it.

How can I do it?

Whether it is a book or a business, your first circle of influence is usually how you make your first sale. The advantage is that, they are easy to reach and will give you the best feedback. In other words, your family, friends and colleagues are part of this. Reach out to them personally, and share a small summary of your book and politely urge them to buy your book and share their feedback.

We understand that selling to people you know is a delicate matter, but you will see that once people find out that you have written a book, they will be curious to see what you have got to say. You need not worry about hard-selling as friends and family usually form the closest circle in your circle of influence. In other words, they are the first responders. So, they will not just be supportive but also eager to help you.

It is then important to let your ‘contacts’ know that you have published a book. Make an email list and populate it with your contacts. Send them a mail mentioning your book and what it is about. These ‘contacts ’are as important as your first circle because they are the immediate next circle of people that will help you spread the word about your book. By reaching out to this set, your network base will expand to include their friends of friends also. With Social media, the six degrees of separation has shrunk to an even smaller number. Thus, your friend’s friend is also by extension your network. So always urge your contacts to talk about your book on their social media channels for it to reach more people.

The high of getting a book published always makes us blind to a few mistakes here and there in the book. Using the reviews and inputs that you get from these first hundred customers can help you fix all those minor errors that would have slipped past in the first edition.

Takeaway:
  • Sell to your friends and family
  • Make it worth their while by giving them an incentive to buy your book using a coupon code.
  • Share a small summary of your book and request them to share their feedback.
  • Reach out to your ‘contacts’.
  • Create an email list and populate it with your contacts of colleagues, and acquaintances.
  • Request them to share it on their social media profiles
  • Request them to review your book on Amazon.

Selling to your friends and family doesn’t have to be a drab exercise. We have had authors throw house parties to introduce their books to their circle. Always remember, once you don the authorpreneurial hat, you should leave no stones unturned in reaching your goal. And we hope you have a lot of fun doing it.
